Owner’s Story:

My parents bought the house in Clonfane, Trim, County Meath, in 1966 as a result of spotting it when we were on holidays in Ireland. We moved from The Netherlands to live here in 1968. In 1970 they had a story added to the house. The house had been a small farm with some acres of land with it. The roof had originally been thatch, then corrugated galvanized iron, and when the story was added the roof was slated.
One end of the house was converted into an apartment around 2002, and has been rented out since. Our mother lived in the house for 43 years and created a garden she liked, ie: with lots of trees and flowers. My mother and my sister were/are horse lovers, and we had horses on the 6 acres that adjoin the house. However, when the horses died, my mother had the 6 acres planted with mixed woodland trees around the older trees that were already there. These trees are now quite big and in their 18th growing season. The forestry was really planted with enjoyment rather than commercial silviculture in mind. I maintain walking paths through the forest that I use for walking and jogging. The outer loop is just over 500 meters long.

The reason for selling is that our mother passed away in 2011, and we need to divide the property between my sister and I.

Anyone who values gardens and gardening, and likes to see and hear birds will love the house and its setting. At the moment, you can hear young buzzards calling to the parents. They sit in the tall older trees and wait to be fed. We have had a sparrow hawk nesting in the wood for the last 5/6 years, and her young are also quite loud in the second half of July and beginning of August. I have seen deer tracks through the forestry also, lots of signs of badgers rooting in the grass, and regular visits from foxes as the tracks in the snow show. I also feed the birds during the winter, so a full complement of song birds also live around the house. I put up a barn-owl nesting box, but no luck with that yet.
I am an angler myself and have fished a lot in the Boyne and Trimblestown rivers. There is also a nice network of roads around here for anyone interested in cycling. The cycle from the house to the Hill of Tara is really nice, with the coffee shop at Tara to look forward to.
