Lissycasey, Co. Clare

Lissycasey, Co. Clare

It’s time for a little eye candy for all you cottage enthusiasts out there; I came across this beautiful Thatched cottage for sale in Lissycasey, Co. Clare this week. It ticks all the right boxes with its neat thatch, half door, sliding sash windows, barge and rough render – and that is only on the outside!

Inside it appears that the owners have really kept the traditional feel while incorporating modern living standards such as under floor heating. The thatch is actually just for decoration as it has a tile underlay – twice the protection from the elements and heat loss. Long gone is the outhouse, this cottage features no less than three bathrooms – some traditions really are better left in the past and running to the outhouse when nature calls is definitely one of them.

Hearth

Hearth

Modern renovated cottages are usually the masters of deception and this is no different as it has three bedrooms tucked away under its golden fringe. Its floor area is around 127 square meters (that’s just under 1,400 square feet in old money!)

The hearth is as traditional as they come – large, open and at floor level with a cooking crane and various traditional cooking utensils around it. The windows have the deep reveals typical of these solid old stone structures. High ceilings and white rough rendered walls give a large airy feel to the cottage.

Kitchen

Kitchen

Although the kitchen is modern with fitted cabinets they are have a traditional finish and details such as the dresser and solid wood table and súgán chairs give it a real homey, cottage feel. Everywhere there is evidence of attention to the details from the old light fittings to the ‘Gods picture’ prominently displayed.

This cottage really exudes charm and has all the marks of a cottage that has really been cared for, it has been in the seller’s family for generations and they are only parting with it as they are moving away from the area.

Stables

Stables

Set on just under a half acre, there are two entrances – one to access the cottage and the second to access the two stables and tack room – also beautifully thatched and maintained.

Lissycasey is one of the longest villages in Ireland stretching over 3.5 km! You are no distance from Ennis – a meer 10 miles, Kilrush is just 13 miles and Kilimer with its car ferry connection to Kerry is just shy of that. Clare has long been known as a county steeped in tradition and music, it could be because they are my closest neighbours here in North Kerry or it could be because they’ve not threatened us in football for a while but I have always had a bit of a soft spot for Clare – a beautiful county with a lot to see and do.

This cottage will be a real treat for the new owners, all the charm of the old with the convenience of the new.

It is on the market with a guide price of €175,000 and the selling agent is Marissa McGrath BSc. MIAVI with Sherry Fitzgerald, McMahon in Kilrush. Their number is 065 9052288 or email mmcgrath@sfmcm.ie if you would like to find out more information.
